Role Purpose

  • Play a key role within the new 24/7 Operations Command and Control Centre based in Maidenhead.
  • Oversee and drive the diagnosis, root cause, and fix of Database incidents.
  • Manage, maintain, support, and improve the Maersk IT Support, Operations, and Engineering department’s ability to respond to incidents across the entirety of the Database estate.
  • Undertakes root cause analysis of incidents and follow up through the Problem Management processes to ensure identified remedial actions are undertaken to prevent further reoccurrence.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Incident management – Actively monitor inbound incident reports in the Maersk Service management tool and triage by business impact.
  • Work with vendors and subject matter expert colleagues to identify appropriate paths to resolve the issue and stop the ongoing business impact.
  • Document, communicate, and log follow up actions for later triage, prioritisation, and action to avoid recurrences.
  • Serve as an Incident Management escalation point when called upon.

Experience Required

  • Demonstrable experience in a fast-paced operations environment.
  • Proven experience gained in a similar role, within a large global/enterprise organisation.
  • Proven abilities to communicate with key stakeholders across the business and IT.
  • Demonstrable IT Infrastructure knowledge across a wide range of technology.
  • Proven Experience with Database Administration for Oracle 11g/12c Server, troubleshooting, and resolving database problems. Performance Tuning and Optimisation (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Linux O/S exposure.
  • Sound working knowledge and experience of 2nd /3rd line, Database platform support.
  • Hands-on experience working with service management tools like ServiceNow, BMC, or similar.

Candidate Competencies / Essential Characteristics

  • Diplomatic and robust with the ability to act in a complex business environment.
  • Understanding, articulating, and operating Oracle Database platform management.
  • Ability to work with both public and private cloud environments.
  • Capability to troubleshoot Oracle and how it interacts with other parts of the infrastructure (e.g. storage, guest operating systems, and virtual centre).
  • Understanding of application topologies and how applications could and should be scaled for demand.
  • Good understanding of Application Architectures.
  • Good understanding of Microsoft technologies; e.g. Active Directory, Windows Server, and IIS.
